the pc i'm trying to connect to is behind a
netgear mr814v2 router, so its issued with a ip
address by the router.
how can i connect to it using pcanywhere? do i use
port forward? or is there such a thing as ip
forward?

Yes, setup port forwarding for PCAnywhere and call using the public IP of
the router while at a remote location...

You need to setup a static LAN IP for the PC your trying to reach...
