Hi,

I got my Axim X30 624Mhz four days ago and I've been struggling to find a
way to allow it to connect to my wireless router (NETGEAR Wireless Router
MR814).

Here are the wireless settings I have on my Wireless Router:

SSID: Enabled
Regioin: Canada
Channel: 01

Broadcast of SSID OFF
Access from 'any' name OFF

Wireless Card Access List: I put my Axim X30 here along with it's MAC
Address.

WEP Authentication Type: Automatic
Encryption Strength: 128-bit

WEP Key: I made four keys here using 128-bit

And here are the settings I put in my Axim X30's WLAN Utitlity: I added a
new wireless network with these settings:

Network Name: <can't say here lol>
Connects to: Work

This device is not a device-to-device (ad-hoc) connection

Authentication: Open (there is no option for Automatic like my Wireless
Router has)
Data Encryption: WEP

The key is not provided for me automatically.

I put my network key for the 128-bit 26 character from the router's Key
index #1 into my PDA
Key Index selected is 1.

And I disabled the 802.1x option.

----------------------

Now the conclusion is when I view the connection, it says that the
connection is Excellect and is connected. The problem is when I try to use
the Internet via PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer), it says that I'm not
connected to the network...

What should I do to allow my PDA/PPC to access my network wirelessly?

Thanks,
- Ed

Your configuration should work but if you don't need to use a proxy then I'd
suggest you create your connection choosing "Connects to: The Internet" and
try again....

IMO having two types of connections in the connection manager doesn't make
any sense and I still need to understand why I need to use two different
connections to browse the local resources in the LAN and to browse the web.
Or maybe it can be done with one connection but I have never found out
how....

Let us know if this workaround fixes the problem... I'm interested in buying
an Axim X30 but I have already seen a few threads about connection problems
between the X30 and various wireless devices....

There are a couple of things I had to do with my DLink router before I could
connect to it. I had the same problems that you are having.
Some are obvious and others aren't.
Firmware up to date? If it isn't go to the website www.netgear.com and
update it.
Turn your preamble to Short. I don't know why it makes a difference but
with mine it allowed me to connect faster to my router.
What are you TX/RX rates? I had to limit mine down to 11Mbs. Now don't get
excited about this one. Unless you are transfering large files over your
network you'll never notice this change. Most Internet servers are only
running <3Mbs.
And here's the one that was killing me the most.
Do you have anything on your router that is a 4x mode? If you do turn it
off.

Hope this helps

I don't think the router that I have has an option preamble.. My firmware of
the router is updated though. How can I check the TX/RX rates? Do you mean
the TX/RX from the X30? If so, the rates are 1, 2, 5.5, and 11Mbps. I'm not
sure about anything running at 4x mode on my router because I don't know
here to find it. Either my router settings are just difficult to read, or
it's just bad. When I look in the router settings, I don't see anything that
shows 4x or 4 times.

Thanks,

You can usually find the TX/RX settings on the performance page of your
router setup.

You can also check these sites out for help they helped me
